What’s the Big Issue?

Does anyone read the Big Issue? I don’t mean buy it. I mean actually read the thing. It’s a serious question. I buy a copy once a month from ‘my guy’ – you know, the one who finally gets through to you by smiling, being persistent, looking sad, selling in the rain, or whatever else [...]

Move over Springbok…

It has been announced by sports minister Makhenkesi Stofile that the Springbok emblem will now play second fiddle to the King Protea as South Africa’s national rugby emblem. “We are not killing the Springbok”, he said. “We are affirming it”. I think it’s really stupid to change the emblem. Everything about our rugby team has [...]

Then along come the SA Police in riot gear. Shooting erupted, with the metro police [...]

Six dead in massive Kwazulu-Natal floods

Torrential downpours starting Tuesday evening caused major road blockages, destruction of bridges and property and the death of at least six people. Others are still missing, injured or marooned where emergency services cannot reach them. Two of the dead were children – pupils from Sidelile High School. (Sadly ironic is the fact that the word ‘sidelile’ means ‘we had enough’ in the Zulu language).

More bad money news

Business Report’s top story of the morning is that (surprise!) our economy is still buggered sideways up the ass with a rusty steel rod. Warnings by Nedbank and African Bank Investments Limited (Abil) yesterday reckon that South Africans need to punch new holes in their belts because of the worsening situation. Nedbank said yesterday that [...]
