Remembering WarGames

There’s a nice nostalgic trip down memory lane over at Wired, for any nerds, geeks and computer nutters out there.
WarGames was the movie that inspired generations of hackers, and more or less brought the concept of hacking into mainstream awareness.
In the movie, David Lightman (played by a very young Matthew Broderick) hacks into a military [...]

Preview: Diablo 3

“Then there’s the enemies… There are a hell of a lot of enemies! Skeletons by the kazillion, zombies, big ugly rotting creatures that explode when you kill them and turn into scores of serpent-like beasties that bite…”

Review: Narnia - Prince Caspian

When I was a small child, there was a relatively small handful of author’s names that I knew: Roald Dahl, Alfred Hitchcock, Enid Blyton, A.A. Milne, and of course, C.S. Lewis.
I didn’t read all of the Narnia books, because frankly even at age seven, I found them to be a bit preachy. I was reading [...]

The Bugatti Veyron FBG

Many top-end car interiors look as if the designers have taken a page out of science fiction and tried to make their cabins look as high-tech as possible, stuffing them with bright lights and shiny gadgets. The FBG instead maintains a minimal, but badass look, making the driver’s experience about driving the car.

Watch-list: Glassdoor.com

Now here’s a bunch of people with a great idea: A website that allows employees to post anonymous reviews of the company they work for, including the salary that they are being paid.

He’s created a flash-based side-scrolling game with his tongue placed [...]

Guerilla Gardening

Richard has been doing various forms of what he calls ‘Guerilla Gardening’ for years. He started by planting some flowers in the grounds around his block of flats and started a blog about his experiences.

Something in what he was doing has captivated the interest of others around the planet. Richard’s blog is now the electronic flowerbed for a ‘growing movement’ of people to coordinate and execute their floral attacks on ugly wasted common space.

Computer desks

When I was just a geeky little kid, I once removed all of the drawers from the large dark oak desk that my parents had bought me to use for school work, and strapped the case of our old (then new) PC to the space created by the missing drawers. I punched a rather messy hole in the back panel of the desk behind the drawer space and shoved all of the cables through it, being careful to neatly staple the one for the screen along the back of the desk and up to where I placed the monitor. Then I sneaked the drawers out to my dad’s workshop…
