While the sad saga of troubled singer Amy Winehouse plays out in very public fashion, one artist in New York has created a grisly tribute to the star.

‘The Only Good Rock Star Is A Dead Rock Star’ is a lifelike sculpture of Winehouse, dead on the ground in a pool of blood, her brains splattered on the gallery wall.

Sculptor Marco Perego created this sculpture- as well as the accompanying figure of author William Burroughs holding a shotgun- and is selling it for US$100,000 at Manhattan’s Half Gallery.

In September of 1951, William Burroughs, playing a dangerous game of William Tell, shot his wife Joan Vollmer in the head and killed her. This sculpture is a re-creation of that event which is “conflating timelines and literary history to create something that’s fantasy but is totally lifelike.”

According to Half Gallery owner, Bill Powers, Winehouse’s manager has already commented on the piece, stating that he finds it a strange tribute. Marco Perego finds this fact “fantastic.”
