LCD TV screen gas ‘worse than coal’
“As a driver of global warming, nitrogen trifluoride is 17,000 times more potent than carbon dioxide, yet no one knows how much of it is being released into the atmosphere by the industry.”
So says Michael Prather, director of the environment institute at the University of California.
Prather’s research says that the gas remains in the air for over 500 years and — unlike the traditional gamut of naughty gasses, such as carbon dioxide, sulphur hexafluoride, and perfluorocarbon — nitrogen triflouride isn’t regulated by the Kyoto Protocol or similar agreements.
I wonder if I can use this to convince my wife that we need a new HD flat screen TV
Damn! Another nail in the coffin of my desire for a new HD flat screen TV… My wife’s gonna be thrilled.
